Today we see many people complaining about their iPhones' battery life. Are iPhones lacking quality batteries, or does the device consume more power by default, or is this a fault of the iPhone user? However, without concluding, we can see some ways we could follow to save battery life on iPhones. In this post, I will be discussing a few efficient ways that you could follow to save battery life on your iPhone.

As you already know, when you bought a new iPhone and check its’ battery health, it’s 100%. But if you do not consciously use your device, iPhone’s battery would drain quickly and it would affect the device's battery life. So, the battery health of your iPhone would decrease within a short period. Also, it’s better to note that a normal iPhone battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its capacity at 500 complete charge cycles.

Recently, we heard a lot of people complaining about iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max battery life that they have experienced poor battery life on their devices. But, without having the proper evidence we cannot come to a conclusion. Therefore, we could try some efficient ways to maximise iPhone battery life.

1. Do not regularly close apps on the App Switcher

Some people used to close recently used apps on the App Switcher more often. But, when closing recently used apps and relaunching them, they would consume considerable power from your device because those apps need to be started from scratch and pull up the latest information for your needs.

So, when you perform this action several times a day, it goes without saying that it consumes a lot of power from your battery and network. This would affect your battery life and tend to drain your battery quickly. But, if you let the app be idle on the App Switcher and when you open that app again it only requires the app to pull up the latest information and it doesn’t require the app to run the loading screen and perform other app loading actions.

Therefore, it’s advisable not to close apps on the App Switcher more often and close them once a day such as before you go to bed or close an app when you found an app crashing or misbehaving from the app. Otherwise, let those apps reside on the App Switcher and your iPhone is intelligent enough to put them idle and manage power on your device.

2. Turn on Auto-Brightness and Dark Mode.

When your iPhone performs at its maximum brightness, you already know it requires a lot of power from the battery. Also, at the same time, it consumes less power when it performs at its lowest brightness level. But when your iPhone is at its lowest brightness, you can’t do your work unless you are in a dark room. Therefore, the best option is to have an adaptive brightness level where it regularly changes the brightness of your device accordingly to the room you work in.

For example, when you walk in outside you need to have more brightness to see the information clearly on your device against the sunlight. Also, when you’re taking an Uber, you need a lesser amount of brightness on your device to work on. But, you don’t need to manually adjust the device’s brightness level on your device and all you need to do is turn on auto-brightness on your device and let the iPhone adjust the brightness on your behalf.

To enable auto-brightness, open Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > turn on Auto-Brightness.

Also, enabling Dark Mode on your iPhone will maximise your battery life. But some users don’t like to keep the dark mode turned on all the time. So, you can turn on dark mode only when it’s necessary by enabling Automatic in the Appearance section or you can set a custom schedule to enable or disable the dark mode on your iPhone.

Additionally, you can try out enabling True Tone and/or Night Shift on your iPhone and turn on Reduce White Point on your iPhone to maximise the battery life. But always make sure these settings are not a burden for you to perform your daily tasks and experience the best out of your iPhone.

To enable dark mode on your iPhone, open Settings > Display & Brightness > select Dark.

3. Turn On Optimised Battery Charging

When you buy newer iPhones, you already know that you don’t get the charging adapter in the box. So, you will have to use one of your existing charging adapters for your new iPhone or you will have to buy a new one. When you use a charging adapter, cable or wireless charging pad for your iPhone, it’s always advisable to use one from Apple or one from Apple Certified vendors or services. Using the right adapters and cables for your iPhone not only maximise the device’s performance but also protect your device.

When you have the right charging adapter and the cable you can start recharging your device when it’s lower in power. When you consider about iPhone’s battery the great option is the Battery section in the Settings app. In this section, you can find more details related to the power consumption of your device such as battery usage based on apps and activities. Also, you can look at your iPhone’s battery health, maximum charging capacity and it’s performance level. In addition to this information, you’re opt-in to turn on/off Optimised Battery Charging which reduces battery ageing by learning your daily charging routines.

This is a great feature on iPhones, allowing users to maximise iPhone battery life and perform at its peak capacity. To turn on Optimised Battery Charging open Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging > turn on Optimised Battery Charging.

4. Enable Notification Summary

You get loads of notifications throughout the day. You might have experienced this scenario when you heavily use social media apps on your iPhone. Each time when you get a notification on your iPhone, the screen lights up and plays a notification sound to get your attention for that notification. So, when you get so many notifications throughout the day, it consumes a considerable amount of battery on your iPhone to perform the above series of actions.

But, you can’t completely turn off notifications because you need to save your battery. If you do that, you will miss important and critical notifications. This’s where Notification Summary comes in handy on your iPhone which delivers critical notifications prominently while scheduling less important notifications. To turn on Notification Summary on your iPhone, open Settings > Notifications > turn on Schedule Summary.

Here, you can create and schedule your notification summaries based on apps and let those apps deliver less important notifications only at the scheduled time. Then, most of your annoying or less important notifications will only show up at the given schedule and all the critical and important notifications appear prominently on your iPhone’s screen without any delay.

5. Location Services & Widgets

Location Services are really important on your iPhone and it plays a major role on each device. Especially, when you find directions, navigate on maps and use weather, these location services are critical. But on your iPhone, you’re opt-in to turn on/off these location services to get the best experience from your iPhone. If you decide to turn on all the location services and let them always access your location, it goes without saying that this process takes a huge amount of your battery. Because your iPhone has to perform a series of actions to constantly check your location and provide you with updated information.

Therefore, it’s advisable to turn on location services only for the necessary apps and turn off location services for unwanted apps. Also, instead of letting those apps always check your location, you can let them use your location only when you're using those apps on your iPhone. This will maximise your battery life and also stop other apps accessing your location unnecessarily.

At the same time, widgets are more useful on your iPhone to get your work done. But when you add widgets on the home screen and/or lock screen which check your location regularly and provide information, it again consumes a considerable amount of your battery. Therefore, when you add widgets on your home screen and lock screen always be cautious that those widgets can consume your battery.

But make sure when you deal with location services on your iPhone, always check what that particular service is performing within your iPhone and turn on or off these services wisely. If you do not have any idea about these location services, it’s always advisable to get advice from someone who knows about them properly or you can refer to Apple support or official documentation that provides correct and useful information.

Conclusion

In this post, I described a few efficient ways that you could practice to maximise your iPhone’s battery. But in addition to the above methods, you could try some other ways such as turning on Low Power Mode when it’s necessary to maximise the battery’s performance.

I hope you found the information useful to prolong your device’s power and experience the best out of your iPhone.
